Fulminant Puerperal Sepsis caused by Hemolytic Group A Streptococci and Toxic Shock Syndrome - A Case Report and Review of the Literature.

چکیده
Most physicians would consider puerperal sepsis, known colloquially as childbed fever, to be a relic of the past which has long since been overcome with the introduction of Semmelweisʼ hygiene measures in general practice. Puerperal fever does not feature in the ordinary experience of most people. But puerperal sepsis caused by Group A Streptococci (Streptococcus pyogenes) may take a highly dramatic course and can result in lifelong damage [1]. There are regular reports of such cases in the literature [2–5]. We present a case of puerperal sepsis which occurred unusually early, describe its severe course and discuss the case in the light of the recent literature.

Group A streptococcal puerperal sepsis with retroperitoneal involvement developing in a late postpartum woman: case report.
Group A beta-hemolytic streptococci cause a wide range of infectious diseases such as pharyngitis, impetigo, rheumatic fever, and even septic shock. Group A streptococcal puerperal sepsis is uncommon today, but recent reports indicate a reemergence of virulent strains can cause toxic-mediated shock and multiple organ failure. We present a case report of a 29-year-old postpartum woman after cesa...

BACKGROUND Staphylococcus aureus and the beta-hemolytic streptococci are the commonest causes of puerperal mastitis which tends to be a localized disease process. This report describes 2 cases attributable to these bacteria that resulted in extramammary involvement and augmented morbidity. CASES Two cases of postpartum mastitis are described, one leading to necrotizing fasciitis caused by gro...

Background: Group A streptococcal puerperal sepsis is an uncommon peripartum infection that can quickly progress to a fulminant, multisystemic infection and life-threatening toxin-mediated shock. This infection can be asymptomatic during a short hospital stay after a routine delivery. Early treatment with antibiotics might not alter the course of tissue destruction caused by the exotoxin A. Met...

متن کاملGroup A Streptococcus Septic Shock after Surgical Abortion: A Case Report and Review of the Literature
Group A Streptococcus (GAS) causing puerperal sepsis is a leading cause of maternal mortality worldwide. Although rare, GAS infection is a relatively significant public health concern because of its propensity to evolve rapidly into septic shock, streptococcal toxic shock syndrome, and death. We report the case of a 27-year-old patient who presented with GAS septic shock after undergoing a surg...
